Bungle Bungle Range

20 October 2008

It is getting harder and harder to sleep at night with this heat! It is over 35C and the humidity isn’t helping. We beg and beg for a breeze to come through, but it’s hopeless. It’s kind of frustrating to spend the night sweating buckets getting eating by bugs.... Well, it’s all part of the adventure!

Also, my right bum cheek is covered in midgy bites. weak.

There is a bus of tourists that we’ve seen around the area for a few days now. Many of them don’t look too happy...I’m glad we have the wombat.

We start the day with a nice walk to the cathedral gorge. The country is so beautiful here, with great views and stunning colours. We took a few movies and lots of photos. I’m still getting used to the Pentax, but I hope we get a few good shots out of it.

Purnululu is quite a detour from the highway, but it’s worth it. I had never seen landscape like this before. It’s quite impressive.

We were able to get drinking water from the visitor’s centre. Apparently it’s treated, and it doesn’t taste half bad.

We started driving toward Wyndham and called Jess, our friend Richard’s sister. She was busy with work and unfortunately couldn’t see us. We decided to bypass Wyndham and go straight to Kununara. We passed Kununara and crossed into the Northern Territories. We had a tomato feast at the border, in the fruit and vegetable quarantine area.

We made it to a highway truck parking, with a sign that kindly suggested for people not to camp there. We decided to anyway, and then a bunch of travellers did the same. We didn’t feel so bad.
