24 December 2008
We woke up in the PoW hostel, had a shower, and used the amazing free internet service available practically everywhere in Singapore to hunt down a decent accommodation for Christmas. After much debate( mostly led my MC) we found a good deal at the Swissotel near Clarke Quay.
We were quite happy with the room, although there were a few ants in the room, the staff took care of it, and offered us a new room if we wanted, We made ourselves comfy, and then went to the supermarket to buy some wine and champagne. It time to celebrate after all! Once we got at the store, we realized that here in Singapore, they have absolutely everything you could possibly buy at home, and even more! We bought everything we missed, and realized that we could probably make a whole special meal out of it back in our hotel room.
So, true to tradition, we brought everything back to the room and made a little three course menu. Cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, prosciutto crudo, olives and brie for appetizers. Bruschetta and smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers, all on a baguette we bought, accompanied with some yummy salmon and tuna sushi(or sashimi? you know, the chunk of fish on top of the rice) and a california roll. I know, we had some sushi the other day, but it looked really good in the store! Then we have ben and jerry ‘phish food’ ice cream and little chocalate almonds and raisins for desert. The staff were kind enough to keep the ice cream for us in the freezer until it was time to eat it.
We decided there was a definite lack of christmas tree, so MC put together a neat little christmas lamp, with Angel Gabriel and baby Jesus and all! We put our gifts under it (a set of DVDs we found the day before we left Indonesia and a origmai paper set). It was quite a wonderful Christmas.
